Murdoch Christian Union Home About MCU What's On Beliefs

Our focus at MCU is the Bible. We spend time reading it, discussing it, hearing it taught publicly, wrestling with parts of it in Campus Bible Study Groups, and encouraging everyone at Murdoch University to investigate it for themselves. We have lots of things happening on campus all the time. We invite you to come and join us.

What's On?

In Semester 2, 2008 our Bible Talks are on EVERY TUESDAY:

TIME: Tuesday’s, 11:30-12:20 = Bible Talk (plus other things), then Lunch together from 12:30-1:20 if you are free.
VENUEThe Worship Centre    (Click here for a map)
NOTE: Murdoch University doesn’t have a common lunch break (yet!), so we aim to put our Bible Talk on at a time when most people can come.

Please call 0414 862 141 for more info.

If you can, please bring your Bible. (If you don’t have one that’s fine too! The part of the Bible we will be looking at is usually printed out for you).

If you don’t have a lecture after the Bible Talk, please join us for lunch (usually in Walters Café, in the Ref, or on Bush Court somewhere depending on the season/weather) where we hang out, eat lunch and spend a bit more time with each other.  Call or SMS 0414 862 141 to find out where we are :)

These Bible Talks are for anyone at Murdoch to come along to – you don’t have to be a Christian!  Drop in, listen think and ask questions. You are very welcome.

We try to put our Bible Study Cell Groups on at a time that enables most people to get to one. Once we know your timetable, we will try to find (or make) a group that meets when you are free. If you would like to join a Small Group please let us know your timetable and a contact phone number. Drop us an eMail: info@mcu.org.au and we’ll be in touch as soon as we can.
We have a faculty based cell group for those studying Vet Science, and one on Monday night for Student Village Christians.
We will do everything we can to make sure you can be a part of a Bible Study Cell Group. Please do all you can to be part of one of these fantastic groups. Call 0412 752 704 for more info.
VENUE: Usually in the Worship Centre, but you will be told exactly where to find us when we find a group for you.

Murdoch Prayer Triplets (mp3's) are for groups of 3 who arrange with each other when and where they will meet to pray. If you would like to be in one or form a new mp3, let us know and we'll give you a sheet to help you make the most of your time as a triplet.

MCU aims to equip students for serving Christ while at uni and for the rest of their lives. The 'formal' training component of MCU is EQUIP. We run EQUIP on Monday evenings, but also can arrange for training to happen at other times, especially if your timetable clashes.
Time: Monday Evenings 4:30-6:40pm
Location: The Worship Centre

Every Thursday, we run our 'MCU Stall'. As a Guild Affiliated Club, we can set up each week in Bush Court. It is a great way for us to meet Christians on campus and for MCU'ers to spend time catching up with each other in their breaks. One other important thing we do is to speak to people about Christianity. We are keen to clarify myths and misconceptions and to clearly explain what Biblical Christianity really is with anyone who is willing to talk with us. Come and say g'day!

MCU is committed to making your time at Uni one of the best times of your life. Lifelong friendships are made every year through MCU and the interaction we have with each other and the other Christian Unions at the other Perth Universities. In addition to all the things we do on campus through the semester, the committee also puts on several social nights where we can hang out together in a different context and have an extended time of getting to know others from MCU. We really encourage you to come along, not only for what you can gain from these events, but so that others can get to know you to! We try to put events on at different times and days so that the most number of people can come. Stay tuned for info. If you'd like to be informed of our next social event, please join our mailing list to receive 'exoteric' our regular eMail update.

MCU 'Movie Appreciation Nights' are designed to demonstrate that there is far more to movie making than special effects, explosions, or Hollywood 'heart-throbs'. There are 'disposable' movies made for mass consumption, and there are 'classics'. These nights are designed to enhance (or initiate) your appreciation of great movies. We want you to think, be moved, get angry, cry. We want to appreciate great acting, direction, photography, and scripts. We aim to appreciate the subtle dimensions of a movie - to appreciate movie making as 'art'. If you're an Arts student, we already know you're interested! If you're a Science student, come along and open up 'the arts student within'! Give the left side of your brain a rest and liberate the right side! Everyone is welcome.
Always guaranteed to be 5-star events. Stay tuned for future screenings. SM.

MCU is committed to ministry. We want every Christian to be a 'self-starter'. The Christian life is not for 'professionals'. We want students to meet with other students to read the Bible, talk about what it says, what it means and what the implications are for their lives, and to pray together and support each other. There's no better way to spend a free hour at uni!

At the end of the year, the Perth AFES students hop on a bus and drive across the Nullarbor to Canberra for 4 days of training and then to Sydney for another 4 days of 'mission' with 2 local churches. They are tremendous times - just ask a student who has been on one. We encourage everyone to go on Bus Trip at least once while they are at uni. It will be a highlight of your life-guaranteed. You not only get to be trained in Christian skills and have a great experience on a 'short-term mission' in Sydney, you will also get to travel across Australia and see the amazing sights along the way. We have a full day at the end of the mission to sightsee in Sydney, we then travel up to the Blue Mountains and have a day enjoying some of God's spectacular creation and then we head home and visit other places like the Cocklebiddy Caves on the way back. Each year is different and the trip is 'custom made' around the students who come. It costs a few hundred dollars (which is quite a bargain considering it covers travel, food, accommodation, a conference, and all the adventures along the way) so start planning to come and put some money aside so you can join us. You will not regret it! Ask any graduate: "Did you go on Bus Trip?" and see their eyes light up if they did. For more info contact:

At the beginning of each year, the 5 Perth Universities have a camp for Christian students. It is aimed primarily at the new intake of first year Christian students. It is designed to help them think about their time ahead at uni from a Christian perspective. It is sort of like an 'Pre-Orientation Day Orientation' for first year Christians! Second, third, and fourth year students are also encouraged to attend for the sake of the 1st year students, to help them and to be role models for them. Ask anyone who went to Kickstart as a first year and they will tell you how helpful it was to be able to meet Christian students from the campus they will be attending. If you know of anyone who is in year 12 this year and would like some info to be able to give them about Kickstart next year, please contact us:
